GOTHIC QUARTER

This is a walk along the Ramblas from Plaça de Catalunya down to the Columbus monument to enjoy the popular and cosmopolitan atmosphere. We will see the Ramblas with birds and flowers and visit the Boqueria market. We will reach the Royal Square with lampposts by Gaudí, their porches and bars. We will walk by the Sant Jaume square where there are official buildings like the Town Hall and the Palace of the Generalitat.

We will see the remains of the Roman temple at Paradis Street and approach the Plaza del Rey where the old Royal Palace and its Gothic Chapel are located. We will visit the Cathedral´s interior and its cloister.

In addition, we will take a walk to Pi Square (Church of Santa María del Mar), the popular streets Petritxol, Portaferrisa, and the cafeteria 4Cats, place of encounter of modernist artists and frequently visited by Picasso at the beginning of century.

Located in the old convent of San José, and founded in 1586, the Mercat Sant Josep, better known as La Boqueria, is a must-see for both locals and tourists, and where you will find more than three hundred stalls offering all kinds of products carefully displayed.
